Dental Technology

At Fraser Valley Dental Specialists in Abbotsford, we believe early detection could be key to optimal oral health. We provide in-house diagnostic services and dental technology such as digital and panoramic x-rays, VELscope, and dental cone beam CT scanning, to help us identify areas of risk and stop problems before they start.

Digital X-Rays

Digital x-rays, also known as digital radiographs, are an essential part of any dental care treatment plan.

Digital x-rays are diagnostic, but they can also be preventative, by helping a dentist diagnose potential oral care issues in a patient’s mouth before they become a major dental concern.

Digital x-rays use an electronic sensor (instead of x-ray film) that captures and stores the digital image on a computer.  This image can be instantly viewed and enlarged, helping the dentist and dental hygienist detect problems more easily.

Panoramic X-Rays

Panoramic x-rays, also called panoramic radiography, is a two-dimensional (2-D) dental x-ray examination that captures the entire mouth in a single image, including the teeth, upper and lower jaw, surrounding structures and tissues.

It covers a wider area than conventional intraoral x-rays and so provides valuable information about the maxillary sinuses, tooth positioning, and other bone abnormalities.

VELscope

VELscope® technology is used by our dentists to help visualize oral tissue abnormalities, including cancer and pre-cancer.

Dental Cone Beam CT (CBCT)

Dental cone beam CT scanning provides three-dimensional images. You stand or sit while the machine rotates around your head.

The beam is cone-shaped, instead of fan-shaped, as in a standard medical CT. The cone-beam CT is particularly useful for dental implant selection and placement.

iTero Intraoral Digital Scanner

The iTero Intraoral Scanner is a digital impression system that captures a detailed 3D model of your teeth and gums. It allows the dentist to take a 3D digital scan of a patient's teeth and bite and make adjustments in real time.

The scanner can be used to create digital study models, supplemental orthodontic appliances, Invisalign® aligners, and much more.
